FAQ

Who Are The Counselors?

Our counsellors are available Monday to Friday from 6pm to 9pm EST.
Our counsellors are young practicing Muslims who come from various cultural and academic backgrounds. These are individuals who have displayed an in-depth understanding of the issues facing Muslims youth, exceptional involvement in the Muslim and the wider North American communities, and excellent academic accomplishments. The counsellors’ diversity facilitates NASEEHA in serving North American Muslim youths of various backgrounds and experiences.

NASEEHA has developed an extensive orientation process, as well as an on-going training program. During the orientation process, counsellors are provided with extensive instruction and support on phone counselling, as well as counselling within an Islamic framework. At this time they receive further in-depth training on the issues facing Muslim youth in North America. This training has been developed in conjunction with other counselling professionals, health care workers, and social service organizations. NASEEHA also provides educational development training for its counsellors. This on-going training focuses on specific issues, such as depression, suicide, family violence, etc. during each session. This allows Naseeha counsellors to have a greater understanding of the challenges facing youth, techniques to help callers, and types of resources available within the community. Naseeha works with experts in their fields, such as doctors, psychiatrists, lawyers and social workers, to develop and facilitate the educational development training. We are strongly encouraged on providing Peer to Peer counselling and therefore, all of our counsellors are aged between 18 – 30 years of age.

Who are the Callers?

How can I help?

NASEEHA is here to make sure that the Muslim Youth can be heard and get the help they need. We cannot do this without the help of the community. By offering SLC (Second Line of Contacts) which involves Doctors, Psychiatrists, and community leaders and specialist, we offer the extended help that sometimes is hard to get. We need to get the word out to those who might not have an alternative way to find help. Spread the word.

Why should youth call NASEEHA and not another counselling service?

NASEEHA recognizes the valuable service other providers are making to the community at large.  NASEEHA is unique because the counsellors have an in-depth understanding of the issues Muslim youth face in North America on a day to day basis.  NASEEHA provides a valuable service to a segment of the population that mainstream service providers do not the expertise or the resources to assist effectively.
Many Muslim youth already feel isolated because they cannot find anyone who can understand their issues or find someone who can help them work through them.  By providing this service, we ensure that youth in North America always have someone there, ready and willing to help them.  Counsellors never encourage isolation or avoidance of issues as a solution.

How can I donate?

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his Muslim brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection.” – Sahih Bukhari

Your donation will be used for the basic operational costs of a helpline, training and marketing. A donation to NASEEHA will also support local youth initiatives as well as partner projects with elementary schools and mosques. Be among the first to champion the first helpline of its kind in North America and be assured when asked what you did with the resources you were blessed with in this lifetime. Even with only $10.00 per month, helping our community is easier than ever. For just 33 cents a day (literally less than a dime more than a quarter for you Canadians) you can rest assured that, thanks to your generosity a young child or youth is getting the help they need when they need it the most from skilled and qualified professionals within our community. While trained and certified, our councillors offer a unique perspective with regard to cultural and religious issues. NASEEHA also encourages linking networks, for example: referring a caller to a specialized organization should it be useful to them. Secondly, Naseeha provides volunteer opportunities to youth with an interest or those pursuing a career in social work. We are committed to not only servicing our callers but also raising up leaders from our community for our community. You be able to download our Donation Form and email it back to us.
